Fulwell Wall Sconce

Product Details
Description

The Fulwell Wall Sconce draws its silhouette directly from the First World War Acoustic Mirror standing at Fulwell, Sunderland, one of only six remaining brutalist sound dishes in England.

Originally engineered to detect incoming airship attacks through parabolic sound reflection, its monumental functional geometry is reinterpreted here as a refined architectural light source.

Handcrafted in our North East studio, the sconce features a deeply etched brass dish that captures and diffuses warm light from an integrated LED halo. The interplay between the patinated metallic texture and soft indirect illumination creates a compelling focal point defined by shadow, depth, and historical weight.

Design Inspiration: WW1 Mirror Sound Dish, Fulwell Sunderland (Image Credit: North News & Pictures 2015)

Designed to mirror the iconic concave dish that once captured and reflected sound from the skies, this piece pays homage to early British innovation, architectural endurance, and brutalist design.

Reimagined through modern craftsmanship, the sculptural curve gently captures and reflects light, bringing a timeless piece of North East history and architectural history into your space.
